Gentle removal of a build-up of earwax, without water, to help ease blocked or muffled hearing
Earwax microsuction is a gentle way to remove a build-up of wax from the ear. It uses a small suction device and no water, so nothing is flushed into the ear canal. It may help if you have blocked or muffled hearing, discomfort, or a feeling of fullness in the ear. This is a private service at Pangbourne Pharmacy.
What happens at your appointment
We start by looking inside your ears with a small camera or scope. This tells us whether wax is the cause of your symptoms and whether microsuction is suitable for you.
If it is, we carry out the treatment there and then. You stay awake and sitting up throughout. Most people find it comfortable, though you may hear a whooshing sound as the wax is drawn away.
If we find that microsuction is not right for you, we will explain why and let you know what to do next.
Who it is for
The service is for adults who think they may have a build-up of earwax. We will only go ahead once we have examined your ears and agree that treatment is appropriate.
Home visits
If you are unable to get to the pharmacy, we may be able to visit you at home. There is an additional charge for this. Please ask us for details.
