Shingles is a painful rash caused by the same virus that causes chickenpox. The virus stays in the body after chickenpox, and can become active again years later. At Pangbourne Pharmacy we offer a shingles vaccination as a private service, so you can arrange it yourself without needing to wait for an appointment elsewhere.
What happens at your appointment
One of our pharmacists will talk with you first. We will ask a few questions about your health, any medicines you take and any allergies, so we can check the vaccination is suitable for you.
If it is, the vaccine is given as an injection into the upper arm. It only takes a moment. We will ask you to stay with us for a short while afterwards, and we will explain what to expect in the days that follow.
Who it is for
This is a private, paid-for service, open to adults who would like protection against shingles. If you are not sure whether it is right for you, please ask us. We are happy to talk it through before you book anything, and there is no obligation to go ahead.
